Reliability Planning
The Reliability Planning department assesses the adequacy of the SPP transmission system in its steady state by determining potential reliability issues or constraints through the Integrated Transmission Planning process in both the Near-Term (0-7 years) and Long-Term horizons (10 years) pursuant to the requirements set forth in Attachment O of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT). These potential issues are addressed by evaluating different solutions (i.e. both transmission and non-transmission) developed by both staff and stakeholders through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order 1000 process to develop project portfolios that are robust and cost effective. The project portfolios are vetted by different working groups such as: the Transmission Working Groups (TWG), Economic Studies Working Group (ESWG), Markets and Operations Policy Committee (MOPC) and the board of directors (BOD).
