SPP board selects NextEra Energy Transmission Southwest, LLC to construct $55 million Oklahoma transmission project

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. — Southwest Power Pool’s (SPP) board of directors approved an industry expert panel (IEP) recommendation for NextEra Energy Transmission Southwest, LLC to build the Minco-Pleasant Valley-Draper transmission project. The 48.4-mile, 345-kilovolt line will connect the Minco and Draper substations in Oklahoma, will cost an estimated $55 million to construct, and is expected to be completed in 2024. The board approved Transource Oklahoma, LLC as the alternate builder.

The IEP evaluated this project through its competitive transmission owner selection process, which is required under the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Order No. 1000 for certain transmission projects. It is the fourth project for which SPP facilitated this process.

In response to FERC’s Order 1000, SPP annually forms a pool of individuals used to create an industry expert panel who reviews, ranks, and scores proposals for certain transmission projects approved for construction by the SPP board of directors.
