Sunny Raheem named SPP’s Director of System Planning, Engineering

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. — Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has chosen Sunny Raheem as its new Director of System Planning for the Engineering Department, effective July 16, 2024.

In this role, Raheem will oversee SPP’s transmission planning, planning policy and research functions.  Specifically, Raheem will direct the development of SPP’s transmission expansion plan in compliance with reliability standards. He will provide leadership for innovative engineering policies to support members, regulators, and SPP. 

“Sunny has been a key asset for SPP since joining us in 2010,” said Casey Cathey, SPP’s vice president, engineering. “Throughout his tenure, he has significantly contributed to the growth and success of both our engineering team and the broader SPP region. Sunny’s dedication and expertise have earned him the trust and respect of his colleagues, upper management, members, regulators, and the SPP Board of Directors.”

Raheem’s extensive experience at SPP includes roles in generator interconnection, modeling, and most recently, the manager of planning policy & research. He received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in systems engineering from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He has held a professional engineering license since 2014.
